WEBSITE NEWS
- Lots of code fixes - ongoing (29 July 2007)
A lot of code fixing is going on in the background. The most important fixes:
-
- The pathway (breadcrumbs) issue has been fixed. Articles when viewed gave a URL in the breadcrumbs which pointed to a non-existent page. This has been fixed by reverting to the ItemID behaviour of Joomla 1.0.11 in combination with the original 1.0.12 pathway. When you view an article, the article title is now greyed, i.e. not a link anymore in the breadcrumb trail.
- Reverting back to the original 1.0.11 ItemID behaviour has also solved an issue with duplicate URLs when an article was published on the frontpage or in certain News Listing modules.
- CSS & core HTML code are now 98% W3C validated. Some minor issues remaining.
- Gallery SEF URLs are still no reality, they are difficult to realise with the G2Bridge (Gallery is a separate non-Joomla component inserted into the website through a bridge). The normal mod_rewrite solution for Gallery in stand-alone mode cannot be used with the bridge. The search for a solution continues...
- Research for a good solution for the films has led to a solution were member's flash movies are going to be stored on an external hosting server weith more bandwidth. Quicker movie access for the visitors and less bandwidth impact for the website itself.
- The FAQ system overhaul has been completed as far as structure is concerned. Lots of FAQ remain to be written and rewritten though. Thank you for your patience...
- Latest Comments section added to "What's New" (10 July 2007)
List of links with the latest comments left beneath articles.
- Page with all Gallery updates added (7 July 2007)
To make it easier to see newly added photos, a page has been added which shows all the latest addtions to the Gallery. This page, called [Gallery Updates], is accessible through a submenu under [Gallery] in the [Main Menu]. A link to this page has also been added on the "What's New" page, right under "Last 4 Added Gallery Albums" and "Last 4 Added Gallery Photos".
- Last 4 Photo Albums & Last 4 Photos added to "What's New" (24 June 2007)
Added a section to the "What's New" page with hyperlinked thumbnails leading to the latest 4 added albums and the latest 4 added photos in the Gallery.
- Time Zone Clock for Netherlands, Ghana, Nicaragua & Surinam (20 June 2007)
To aid in having a quick overview of the time-differences when communicating, a timezone clock in the menu area.
- Xplorers photo-albums & movies autonomy (18 & 19 June 2007)
Xplorers can now auto-publish and auto-manage their photo-albums without the need to go through the Editorial Office. Xplorers can now also encode their movies themselves and embed them in their articles without the need to go through the Editorial Office
- "What's New" additions (5 & 6 June 2007)
To make it easier to check what has changed on the website, the "What's New" section has expanded and now offers lists of hyperlinks to:
- The latest 35 News & Blog Articles
- The latest 25 FAQ items
- The latest 25 Web Links
- The first 15 upcoming calendar events
- The latest 15 forum posts
- A small section explaining new functionality on the website
- The new statistics now counts the number of Weblinks & DocMan files added too
- "Upcoming Calendar Events" added to the "What's New" page (3 June 2007)
The "What's New" page will be undergoing some changes in the coming weeks.
Already added is a hyperlinked table of content and a heading "Upcoming Calendar Events", a list with links to the full calendar for upcoming events. The site search has also been extended to now include calendar events in the search results.
- Mini-Calendar (4 June 2007)
A mini-calendar has been added to the site, bottom left under the menus. It will only be visible for registered users. The mini-calendar provides quick access to the full calendar. Dates are hyperlinks to the full calendar; dates with an event in them are colored blue. Good for a quick overview. Authors can submit new events, but only Publishers and higher can publish, edit or delete calendar entries for now. FAQ will follow soon.
- FAQ System Overhaul (June 2007)
The World2xPress FAQ System will undergo major maintenance in the coming weeks.
A version upgrade and reconfiguration of EasyFAQ, and a complete reorganisation and rewrite of the FAQs will eventually give use more ease of use. The new FAQs will have Tags, keywords below each FAQ entry which you can click to quickly find all FAQ entries which relate to that same subject or related subjects. This is quite a big task, but we expect to finish before end of June 2007.
- New article Comment System (1 June 2007)
In order to facilitate and stimulate user interaction, World2xPress have decided to implement a new commenting system, which will allow both registered users and visitors to comment on articles directly below each article. Only specific News & Blogs categories get the commenting possibility. The commenting system (we have chosen J!Reactions) will allow more direct article comment interaction, whereas the Forums will continue to provide a platform for actual discussions, both article and non-article related.
- World2xPress RSS Feeds (15 May 2007)
World2xPress now offer RSS Feeds to monitor our website content. You can find the available feeds in the menus under [Newsroom] - [World2xPress RSS], or by clicking on the [RSS 2.0] picture which you can find on the bottom left of each page
